A birth chart is a snapshot of where every body in the solar system sat, from Earth's view, at a precise moment. Getting that snapshot right is an astronomy problem, not a guess. We use the VSOP87 planetary theory (Bretagnon & Francou, 1988) via the open-source astronomia library to compute the heliocentric, then geocentric, ecliptic longitude of each planet, and the ELP2000 lunar theory for the Moon.
Each body's ecliptic longitude (0–360°) maps to one of the twelve tropical signs of 30° each. This is the same convention used across Western astrology and is independent of the slowly precessing constellations.
Most placements — Sun, Moon, and the planets — depend only on the date and barely move within a day, so they are reliable even without a birth time. The rising sign and house cusps do need a time. When it is unknown, we use a transparent solar-chart convention and say so, rather than inventing a time and presenting a false rising sign.
Many pets have no known birthday. Astrology has a long-standing convention for unknown origins: anchor the chart to the moment a new chapter began. We use the adoption or "gotcha" date as a soul birthday — an honest, meaningful anchor rooted in your actual bond.
Accuracy is the foundation the meaning rests on. The interpretation is crafted to be insightful and is offered for reflection and entertainment — but it is always built on a correctly computed chart.
The astronomy is accurate to arc-seconds via VSOP87. The astrological reading is interpretive and for insight and entertainment — but it is always built on a rigorously computed chart, not a generic template.
Sun, Moon and planets need only the date. The rising sign needs a time; when it's unknown we use a solar-chart convention and tell you, rather than guessing.
The adoption or "gotcha" date is used as a soul birthday — a standard astrological convention for unknown origins, anchored to a real moment in your bond.
